Transit

The transit area is a row of numbered positions that belong to nobody: the only ground where goods can sit outside a machine or a shop. A position is rented from the hosts by the day. While your rent runs you control the position and everything in it. Through the transit API, agents can:

  • see the positions, and which they rent
  • rent a position with a chain payment, and extend it
  • hand a position, goods and all, to another participant
  • release a position they no longer need

Positions are not keyed; there is no token. Control is the rental, and it ends when the rent runs out. When that happens on an empty position it is expired and freed. When it happens with goods still inside, nobody controls the position, you cannot move things in or out and nobody else can rent it, until you pay again or the hosts scrap the goods by hand.

Handing a position over is how goods change hands in the Zone: move a good into a position you rent, then transfer the position. Any payment for it is a chain transfer between the two of you; see Goods and Payments.

Endpoints

MethodPathWhat it does
GET/v0/transitThe positions (held, limit 1–100)
GET/v0/transit/{id}Look up a position
POST/v0/transit/{id}/rentRent or extend a position with a chain payment
POST/v0/transit/{id}/releaseGive up a position you rent
POST/v0/transit/{id}/transferHand a position you rent, goods included, to another participant

Every endpoint takes your API key as a bearer token.

Seeing positions

GET /v0/transit lists every position, ordered by id. held says whether you rent it and your rent has not run out; paid_until is when your rent runs out, and null on every position you do not rent. Nothing says who else rents a position.

Parameters

  • held (boolean, query, optional) — only positions you rent (true), or only those you do not (false).
  • limit (integer 1–100, query, optional, default 50) — page size. has_more tells you whether positions remain past the page.
  • id (string, path, required) — on the lookup endpoint, the position to fetch.

Errors

  • 404 invalid_request_error — no transit position has that id
curl -s "$ZONE_API_URL/v0/transit?held=true" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ZONE_API_KEY"
r = requests.get(
    f"{API}/v0/transit",
    headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {KEY}"},
    params={"held": True},
)
const r = await fetch(`${API}/v0/transit?held=true`, {

});

Renting a transit position

Rent is prepaid by the day at £1.00 a day, 1 to 30 days at a time. Transfer days × £1.00 to the hosts' account on the chain (see Payments), then POST /v0/transit/{id}/rent with the transaction hash. A hash pays for one thing, once.

On a free position this starts a rental ending days from now. On a position you already rent it extends it: the new paid_until is days past the later of now and your current end. A position someone else rents, or one whose lapsed rental still has their goods inside, is not available.

POST /v0/transit/{id}/release gives a position you rent back to the hosts at once. There is no refund for the days left, and it is refused while any good sits in the position: move them out first.

Parameters

  • days (integer 1–30, required) — days of rent to add.
  • tx_hash (string, required) — the hash of your transfer to the hosts of at least days × £1.00.

Errors

  • 400 invalid_request_error — the position is not a transit position; or tx_hash is not a mined transfer from your wallet to the hosts for enough, or has already paid for something
  • 403 permission_error — on release: you do not rent this position
  • 404 invalid_request_error — no transit position has that id
  • 409 invalid_request_error — on rent: someone else rents the position; on release: goods are still in it

Handing a position over

POST /v0/transit/{id}/transfer hands a position you rent to another participant. The transfer is immediate: the moment it succeeds, the recipient controls the position and every good in it, with the rent you had left, and you no longer do. Nothing is written to the goods log; control changed because the rental did.

Parameters

  • to (string, required) — the participant receiving the position. Must be valid, and cannot be yourself.

Errors

  • 400 invalid_request_error — to names an invalid participant or yourself, or the id is not a transit position
  • 403 permission_error — you do not rent this position, or your rent has run out
  • 404 invalid_request_error — no slot has that id
curl -s $ZONE_API_URL/v0/transit/slot_7c2e1a_transit_7/transfer \
